How long will it take to lube my switches?

Lubing is the most underestimated build task. This gives an honest time estimate before you commit a weekend.

How this works

  • A switch opener saves more time than any other tool.
  • Thin lube on linears, very sparing on tactiles, and generally skip clickies entirely.
  • Doing 20 switches first and typing on them tells you whether the whole job is worth it.

People also ask

Is lubing worth it?

On cheap linears the difference is dramatic. On good factory-lubed switches the gain is smaller. Try a partial set before committing to a full board.

Is lubing every switch actually worth it?

On linears it reliably removes scratchiness and is the single biggest feel upgrade. On tactiles it can dull the bump if overapplied, and clicky switches are normally left alone.

Which lube should I use?

Krytox 205g0 is the usual choice for linear switches and springs, with a thinner lube such as 3203 on tactiles. Apply it thin. Too much is worse than none.
