Lectric's spare batteries go in and out of stock, and owners who wait for a failure sometimes sit through a backorder with an unrideable bike. A second first-party pack also doubles as a range extender on longer days, since the XP Lite pack is small enough to carry.
The trap to avoid
Do not buy a battery based on voltage alone. A generic 48V bottle or shelf battery will not mount inside the XP Lite frame, and splicing one in bypasses the communication the stock system expects. Before buying anything used, check the seller's photos against your own pack's label and connector, and confirm the listing names the XP Lite specifically rather than the XP or XP Step-Thru.
